Science Investigations

In our Materials and Motion science unit, we are investigating different materials. Last week, we investigated how to sink a wood block. We used rubber bands and paper clips!

This week, we investigated how to change the shape of wood. We know wood comes from trees, and we’ve found lots of items made of wood in our classrooms and home. How do people change it from trees to the objects we use? While I’m not planning on bringing saws or other machinery into the classroom, we did get to use sandpaper to change the shape of our wood blocks! Each student had their own block of balsam and a piece of sandpaper. We worked to smooth the edges with the rough sandpaper to see the difference!
